My name is Eliza and I’m documenting my 2-Day Beginner Ginger Juice Cleanse to give you insight into what a cleanse can be like, hour by hour, minute by minute. This is my third cleanse with Ginger Juice. My first was a 3-Day Intermediate Cleanse and my second was a 1-Day Advanced. I am mixing it up a little since I have been excited to try out the soups.
I am not a nutritionist. I am an average girl who is trying to find a balanced relationship with my body and food, plus still enjoy life without feeling deprived. I am a work-in-progress, far from perfect human being, so my experience may be different than yours. All I can hope is that this diary will give you an idea of what to expect while cleansing, give you the confidence to try it (If I can do it, anyone can!), and make you laugh along the way. Enjoy!
To prep your body for the cleanse, you’re advised to eat unprocessed, real fruit, veggies, and lean proteins. To get specific, they say you should cut out caffeine, alcohol, smoking, white sugar, red meat, shellfish, corn, cow’s milk, eggs, gluten. Today, I’m eating lots of fruits & veggies with a side of protein. I still had a black iced coffee and feta cheese on my salad, well, because I need things to live for.
CLEANSE DAY 1:
I’ve mentally prepared for this cleanse and planned my week around it. First, my fiancé is out of town which is incredibly helpful! Cleansing is already mentally challenging - I don’t need someone eating a cheeseburger in front of me, no matter how much I love you! I also planned more relaxing activities around the house and low-key exercise (yoga/barre/walking). I know not everyone can dedicate 1-3 days to cleansing, but just give yourself a little more time and plan for a slower day. I have cleansed in an office environment, so it can be done! Just keep in mind, day 1 is when you feel the most detox. My day 1 will include packing (we’re moving), laundry, running a few errands, barre, talking my dogs on a walk, maybe a bath, reading, and a lot of Netflix (I’m late on the Stranger Things binge, but I’m here now!).
8:37 AM - Just waking up and feeling a little dehydrated so I start my day with a big glass of water! I grab my turmeric shot and my Golden out of the fridge. I personally love the turmeric shot, both the way it tastes and the way it makes me feel. It goes down oh-so-easy and I start to feel energy right away. If you’re hesitate about turmeric, I understand. It’s an acquired taste, but worth it. Just throw it back!
8:58 - Time for some Golden in my life! I love this version of orange juice. It still tastes like the original, but not as sweet because of the grapefruit, lemon and turmeric. I’m taking my time with this juice, enjoying and being mindful of the nutrients that are going in my body. Part of "feeling full” is mental, so I even go through the motion of chewing to notify my body and mind that I’m technically eating. It takes me about 20-30 minutes to drink the entire juice.
10:45 - Hey juice #2! Is it time for you already? Sometimes it can feel like it’s just so. much. liquid. Especially since for every juice you drink, you should drink just as much water. But thankfully, Glorious is my favorite green juice, because the pineapple + cucumber combo is clutch. I spend the morning changing our address and setting up cable/internet & power for our new apartment.
1:10 - My fiancé tells me that he gave me the wrong address for our new apartment. I have been updating addresses and setting up new services all morning for THE WRONG ADDRESS. I have a full meltdown. My emotional stability and patience is nonexistent. It resembles a toddler throwing a tantrum. Thankfully, no one (but my dogs) is around to witness it.
1:43 - My reaction feels extreme, so I think I need to eat my soup STAT. I am really excited to try Green Goddess! It’s kind of rainy today so I’m warming mine, though you can eat it cold like a gazpacho. This bad boy is delicious! A little spicy, which I love. I put it in a bowl, but end up drinking it out of the bowl anyways.
2:45 - I’ve got that 2:30 feeling, big time. This time on Day 1 is usually the hardest on me. Don’t judge, but I take a bath and it feels wonderful. But after, I’m still achy, lethargic, and having some tummy cramps. Positive spin, this is all the bad stuff leaving my body!
3:31 - I’m a little behind schedule on my juices! Enter, Giving! This juice is incredibly filling - I usually have a hard time getting the whole thing down, even though it’s delicious. This juice is PACKED with fiber and other nutrients so nature calls pretty fast. And yes, the color comes out the same way it goes in!
4:18 - I’m getting my second wind and pack up most of our kitchen for the move, take out the recycling, fold some laundry, and then chug some water.
6:34 - My energy was zapped pretty quickly after chores and what not. But it's time for Golden Guaya Soup! This one is much thicker than the lunch soup. I have to say, it’s tastes different than I expected. Not my favorite - but I eat half and then eat a few baby carrots just to make sure I’m getting enough nutrients.
8:01 - My favorite part of every cleanse, GLEE! This is the most delicious thing I’ve ever tasted. It’s basically like drinking a creamy milkshake. Heavenly! When I wasn't feeling o hot earlier, I literally thought of this juice and it got me through.
9:14 - Falling asleep fairly early tonight! My tummy is super full and I’m pretty gasey, but I’m looking forward to day 2. Sweet dreams!
CLEANSE DAY 2:
7:57 - Rise and shine! I slept like a baby! This is usually the time I feel most of the benefits of cleansing. It’s amazing what just one day can do. I still start my day with a glass of water. Then off to my turmeric shot. Easy!
8:25 - Time for some Golden. I’m pretty hungry at this point, craving all the things. Mostly anything related to bread - including but not limited to, pizza, avocado toast, bagel, etc. I’m just torturing myself, so I’m stopping now.
9:14 - I’m feeling okay, but I’m pretty emotional and overly sensitive. I run by Ginger Juice to switch out my Golden Guaya soup for the Green Goddess and I get a peanut butter energy bite. It does the trick! I’m drinking a ton of water today, since I don’t think I was on top of that yesterday.
10:25 - I’ve been running errands and it’s already time for Glorious. So good! Goes down easily and pretty quickly.
12:37 - Soup time. I love the spice of the Green Goddess soup! This time I just drink it chilled right out of the bottle! I’m still packing and working, but I try to slow down and even “chew” this one a little so I can mentally feel full as well.
3:12 - Feeling good and ready for some Giving. This bad boy is always a little more difficult for me to drink, not because of the taste (it’s delicious), but because it’s heavier than others. It always takes a me a little longer but I drink it slowly and enjoy it. It takes me almost an hour.
4:47 - I take my dogs on a nice long walk and enjoy being outdoors. We walk to the park and I throw the tennis ball with my little one until she’s pooped! It’s just the right amount of exercise so I don’t feel completely zapped of my energy, plus I got some vitamin B.
6:32 - Soup! I heat the Green Goddess up (remember I switched mine out!) for a bit of variation. Ginger Juice is great about adjusting the cleanse to fit the person, so don't hesitate to ask. In this moment, I am really looking forward to Glee. It’s just so good.
8:14 - Glee, Glee, GLEEEEEE! I love this bad boy. It’s the perfect way to end every day. I watch Stranger Things and savor every sip!
9:57 - Time to sleep! Not gonna lie, I’m already thinking about what I am going to eat for breakfast in the morning. BUT - I am really happy I got through this cleanse and know my body will thank me. It’s never easy, but it’s totally worth it.
Day 3: Off-Cleanse
I wake up with no alarm, feeling great! I have an acai bowl to ease back into eating food. It hits the spot! I plan to stick with veggies today and light dairy - no meat or gluten. I want to feel the full benefits of this cleanse.
I’m happy with how this cleanse went, even though it was a little more difficult than others. Overall, here are my tips for cleansing:
- If it’s your first cleanse, try the Beginner. The soups help you mentally trick yourself into feeling as though you’re eating, which is incredibly helpful. (Plus, you still get Glee. Did I mention how much I love Glee?)
- If you’re committed to an Intermediate or Advanced, cleansing in a group will be SO helpful! Just the emotional support and knowing someone else is doing it with you is clutch.
- Mental and physical preparation is key! They go hand in hand. Preparing your mind for the challenge ahead is critical so when you aren't feeling your best, you can remember why you chose to cleanse in the first place. By eating real foods in the days leading to your cleanse, you are physically preparing your body to detox
- Stay busy, but make sure you have time to relax. I made it a point to do more relaxing activities that I would never make time for in my day-to-day. These moments made me incredibly self-aware and I was able to appreciate that my body was detoxing. You can get so caught up in life, taking care of yourself can become an after-thought (or no thought!). Cleansing is a form of self-care and self-love - your thoughts, time, and activities should reflect that too.
